An important government agency, the National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health, reports that:
"Results from a number of studies suggest that acupuncture may help ease types of pain that are often chronic such as low-back pain, neck pain, and osteoarthritis/knee pain. It also may help reduce the frequency of tension headaches and prevent migraine headaches. Therefore, acupuncture appears to be a reasonable option for people with chronic pain to consider."
Most clients here at PBOM experience significant pain relief within their first few treatments—often on the very first visit. As the pain subsides and a feeling of comfort again becomes the norm it is important to continue treatment to stabilize the gains and ensure that the improvements are lasting. The number of visits required depends on your specific complaint and health but, in general, most folks find substantial relief within 2 to 4 visits and a large reduction in their overall pain (90% or more) within 12 visits. Another series of 12 visits helps to make the changes long-lasting and integrates the improved function and well-being. After that, most clients are good to go and just come in once every several months or more for a general treatment to continue supporting their overall health and vitality.
